Get stylish modern Australian meals without a big price tag
Seasonal dishes and ethically sourced ingredients are the go at Mr and Mrs Howell. Their approach to food is matched by their range of local beers, spirits and wines. Combined with the venue's cosy, rustic-kitsch interior, Mr and Mrs Howell perfectly suit their Brunswick location.
Dishes are moderately priced and broken up neatly on the menu into meals from the garden, ocean and farm. (That’s vegetables, seafood and meat to the layfolk.) It’s all mod-Oz, mod-European type fare spanning leg of Flinders Island lamb to prawn, pea and mussel paella, with touches here and there of chef Mark Brozic’s Slovenian heritage (try the Žlinkrofi – Slovenian ravioli).
The restaurant is also great for something light. Try their elegant charcuterie board and a glass of vino, or the purple carrot and ginger dumplings. Heck, you could even skip straight to dessert – strawberry jam filled doughnuts have yet to disappoint anyone.
Like many a married couple Mr and Mrs Howell are also apt to have guests over for drinks. They host semi-regular Sunday Bubbles events where you can taste different sparkling wines from around the world while nibbling on canapés. Mr and Mrs Howell is the kind of place you take people you want to impress, without looking like you’re trying to impress.
