The Station meets and exceeds demand for dining options in a rapidly changing hood
Under new owners since October 2014, Station Hotel has stayed true its mission of providing quality food in a casual pub environment. The kegs piled near the door and the brisk trade at the bar are sure signs that this is as much local watering hole as upscale eatery. Dining in the public bar is a casual affair that belies the full, and excellent, menu available no matter where you’re perched.
Modern and imaginative specials don’t veer too far from beer-swilling territory, and mains are sized for pub appetites, with thick slabs of charred and tender steak. Thoughtful beer notes are chalked on boards around the bar, and the six taps pour Carlton for the penny pinchers, Trumer Pils for the Europhiles, and four local craft numbers for the trendies. Station is happy to embrace the folks of Footscray both old and new, and speaks loudly to a neighborhood on the up and up.
