Sure, the airy, friendly eatery serves up the regulatory beer-battered fillets of snapper or blue grenadier and crisp, salty chips. But Tommy Ruff is much, much more. An imaginative menu is a tribute to all things sea-worthy: grilled prawn tacos with a zesty salsa, crunchy panko-crusted calamari rings and the heart-stopping Stump Jumper Burger, stacked high with grilled or crumbed fish, lettuce, tomato and sweet chilli lime mayo. There's no excuse here if you need to side-step deep-fried goodness, either. Daily specials might offer a pomegranate-glazed salmon or Zatar-spiced wild barramundi. And, if you must, you can skip the chips and order a side of rice and ever-changing salads like pumpkin and quinoa or Israeli couscous. After a meal here, you’ll forget your local fish shop’s flaccid flake.
