Wide Open Road
Time Out says
Hootan Heyderi and Jono Hill converted an unused warehouse into a café back in 2010 as a follow up to their successful Brunswick café venture A Minor Place. Recent modifications mean it’s an even wider open road, nearly doubling the space to include more seats, a huge commercial kitchen and green bean storage area. Long, wooden communal tables bump up against street side windows and walls of exposed brick and mint green paint make the space very chic for a Brunswick shed.
The crew roast their own coffee blend (sold retail and wholesale). It’s made to order via Synesso or a retro looking Moccamaster (USA filter style). A daytime only affair, the menu is befitting of it’s young, hip Brunswick clientele - coconut milk laced black rice porridge with dulce; a chorizo and white bean cassoulet topped with poached egg; perky salads of beetroot, horseradish and potato. A selection of sandwiches plays excellent homage to animal based proteins and we’d cross town any day for a plate of salted beef and potato hash smothered in fried egg and creamy mustard sauce, a dish known to knock any hangover dead on the spot.
