Just look for the neon sign and you’ve landed in the right place. Yakimono looks like it was plucked straight from Shibuya Crossing and placed right here in Melbourne’s fashion quarter. This wonderful amalgamation of Japanese futurism and an up-market Melbourne dining experience is what makes Yakimono so captivating. Combine that with a Suntory Toki Whisky Highball and it feels like being transported to a sci-fi utopia reminiscent of Wong Kar-wai’s 2046, or Sofia Coppola’s Lost in Translation.

Despite appearances, Yakimono won’t break the bank. In fact, the beloved Japanese-inspired eating house is currently serving a new promotion that gets you a Suntory Toki Whisky Highball and bite pairing for just $20.

Sip on a Toki Highball (a combination of Suntory Toki Whisky and soda water) while you eat delicate tuna tartare with tempura oba leaf and fermented chilli. Or for something sweeter, try the Toki Slipper (Suntory Toki Whisky, honeydew melon, orange, sugar-snap, lemon and bitters), which pairs wonderfully with miso wakame butter roasted scallops.

If you've been lucky enough to travel to Japan, you'll know their whisky obsession is palpable. Instead of the Aussie mainstay of a vodka, lime soda — the Japanese are more likely to order a Whisky Highball for that same light taste. That's why it feels so right that Japanese-inspired Yakimono and Suntory Toki Whisky are joining forces for this enticing promotion.

These drink and bite pairings are available all day every day until the end of April – so it’s worth venturing to the Paris end of Collins Street before then for this delicious offering. To find out more about what’s on at Yakimono, head to the website. Or to make a booking, head here
