Day to night drinking and dining on Chapel

With its roadhouse diner portions, vinyl menus and $22 jugs of sangria, Yellow Bird offers up round-the-clock Mexican-inspired dining in the heart of Windsor.

There's a hefty outdoor section for those who prefer a street view with their Corona and nachos, leading into an airy interior framed by kitschy wall art, low-hanging ceiling fans and a cafeteria-style configuration of tables and chairs that are functional, if not much to look at. The vinyl seats aren't great in the warmer climate, but you’ll forget all about the uncomfortable back sweat with one glance at the drink menu. An impressive array of cocktails, wine, cider, Mexican, Spanish and New Zealand beers, juices, smoothies, coffee, margaritas and the aforementioned sangria jugs, which you can hit from eight in the morning, till final call at 1am. Settle into a Miss Judy's Sour of amaretto, passionfruit, lemon and egg white ($17), or grab a Dos Equis Amber ale from Mexico ($7), and hit the snacks.

It's dude food here: big portions, lots of protein, and no pretentions. Cleverly, the breakfast menu is available all day, meaning you can have a breakfast burrito stuffed with scrambled eggs, guacamole, bacon, house-made spicy beans, sour cream and tomato salsa ($15) at midnight if you so wish.

If you're after something from the Mexican menu, there are nachos, burritos, chilli fries, tacos, fajitas, enchiladas – it's all there, baby. If Mexican doesn't tickle your tastebuds you can opt for the more traditional options like risotto, chicken burgers, salads, fish and chips, or the very cheesy roast veggie lasagne ($16). We say stick south of the border.

They don't take bookings, but if the queue causes you distress, there's always whisky at the crew's new venture up the road, the Woods of Windsor, to pass the time.
