Brunswick-based designer Kristy Barber is branching out and opening up a flagship store in Melbourne CBD, in historic Flinders lane. It's taking the place of recently closed Australian fashion retailer Alice Euphemia that spent 18 years under the arches. While we wish both boutiques could have existed side-by-side, it's still a win for local designers.
Kuwaii launched in 2008 after Barber won Student Designer of the Year at L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival. She has made a name for herself creating stunningly simple, meticulously detailed pieces. Using a mix of bold prints, block colours and sheer panels she has formed timeless garments – including loose-fitting pants, tops, dresses and jackets. There is also a range of comfortable shoes including platform heels, sandals and loafers.
