Get your hands on some of the world's most beautiful art tomes, meet local zine-makers and party with fellow readers at this annual book bash
Whether you're a typography nerd or you're collecting a beautiful collection of art books, you'll want to leave space in your social calendar for the NGV's third annual Melbourne Art Book Fair.
This year, 50 programs will be squeezed into four big days at the NGV International; we're talking book clubs running across the entire weekend, an international symposium on typography (Thu Mar 16) and a huge showcase of zines.
You can expect an even larger selection of exhibitors throughout the weekend, all of whom will be selling their books which cover everything from art and design to photography and architecture.
Make sure you keep an eye out for London-based Self Publish, Be Happy; an organisation that celebrates photobooks by self-publishers across the world. They'll be running a public book club, in which visitors can meet up with like-minded book-lovers from local reading groups with interests spanning feminism, art, dogs and lots more.
On Friday night, the Melbourne Art Book Fair Party is your chance to enjoy beats by DJ Cale Sexton, plus food and drinks while you hang out with international and local publishers (visit the website to buy tickets).
Budding art writers will jump at the chance to participate in the many workshops and talks throughout the weekend, which range from the grammar of art writing to a discussion between photographer and collage artist Zoë Croggon and senior curator of photography Susan van Wyk.
And that's far from it. Visit the website for the full program; many of the events are free, some with bookings required.
