Fed Square's bustling Atrium converts to a thriving marketplace, celebrating the best of Melbourne's small businesses
Square, a global payments tech company hailing from California, was founded by Jack Dorsey (one of Twitter's co-creators) and found its fourth international home in Melbourne in 2015. Square has since become so integral to the local retail fabric that the company felt compelled to repay local small businesses for not only making it welcome, but for providing such an eclectic, interesting, progressive and cool sector.
The result is Square Market: a rotating pop-up marketplace where you'll find Melbourne's best-loved retailers selling tasty treats, killer coffee, illustrations, homewares and crafts. New vendors will come to the fore every day, making Square Market an ever-changing experience.
Known names include Adriano Zumbo (for the best in colourful patisserie), Mörk Chocolate (for handcrafted, specialty chocolate) and Sensory Lab (the last word when it comes to proper coffee). Lesser known outfits, who ought to become equally as popular, include Melbourne-based Butterbing cookie sandwiches, Tightology (heading into winter, it'll be a great time to stock up on Tightology's socks, knee-highs and tights) and That Dapper Chap (this crew hand-make bow ties with love for the discerning gent).
