Venture along St Georges Road in Fitzroy and you’ll come across Tombo – a homewares store filled with Japanese and Chinese furniture.
The perfect place to visit if you’re for something different to the high-priced, minimalist furniture frequently found north of the city, Tombo champions pieces that are authentic, solid and the perfect addition to your home. There is also a selection of antique items available.
Many of the pieces on offer (think cabinets, cupboards and smaller decorative items) are ready to be used, but for those who like a bit of DIY work there is a warehouse of unrestored furniture just waiting to find a home.
Tombo also houses rolls of colourful and patterned Japanese fabric, including silk, cotton and wool. A selection of kimonos are also available.
