A collaborative vision of designers Joy Liakis and Natalie Fowler, Vicious Venus came about in 1996 when the pair were completing their degrees in Fashion Design at RMIT and McCabe Academy. United by their love of historical design, punk ideals and modern innovative fashion, they were especially inspired by the art of corsetry.
Says Joy, “Vicious Venus now invokes images of strength as well as classical beauty, which pretty sums up our philosophy. We’re passionate about empowering women of all ages to enhance their own natural beauty with the best of vintage styling.”
Much of the pair’s inspiration comes from old Hollywood films and the groundbreaking designers such as Chanel, Dior, Vionnet, Balenciaga, Mugler, Galliano, Gaultier and Westwood. These intricate designs are translated into more wearable fashion for today – which proves quite doable in this age of high-quality innovate stretch fabrics!
“We love what we do,” says Joy. “And as we specialise in dresses for women of all sizes, our range goes up to a size 22. Our customers LOVE this as the dresses not only fit, but flatter.”
