Time Out says

Run, don’t walk, to sign up for the grand return of the Great Ocean Running Festival this May

Before you enter full hibernation mode with the colder months looming ahead, commit to one last outdoor hurrah with the return of the Kieser Great Ocean Road Running Festival to Victoria’s South-West coast on 14-15 May 2022. If you were about to stop reading this because you recoiled at the word running, don’t panic and keep reading because the Great Ocean Running Festival has much more to offer than just a race.

For the running purists amongst us, register for the ultimate endurance challenge: a 60km Ultra Marathon between Lorne and Apollo Bay. For some of the best views, sign up for the Kieser Marathon (44km) or the Brooks Half Marathon (23km) along breathtakingly beautiful stretches of the Great Ocean Road.

For the less enthusiastic runners of the world, this really is a festival with plenty on offer for everyone. Make the most of a vehicle-free Great Ocean Road and sign up for the 5km or 10km Great Ocean Road walk. If you've got little ones, encourage them to get up and about and join them for the 1.5km Kids’ Gallop. If that still sounds a little too athletic, consider getting involved in the Kite Festival, popping into the Lorne Sea Baths, enjoying live music at the Apollo Bay and Lorne Hotels or stopping by the petting farm – just a taste of the many events on offer over the weekend.

If the combination of doing something good for your health and wellbeing with a picturesque setting and heaps of entertaining events on offer is still not enough for you, perhaps the prospect of glamping will be motivation to push you across the line. With tents available for two to four people, this is your perfect opportunity for a road trip and a weekend away before winter hits. There are plenty of other events and races on offer, so be sure to check out the website and find the perfect race for you.
