Melbourne, get ready to be seduced all over again. The utterly salacious queen of punk-kabarett Bernie Dieter is making a triumphant return to our corner of the world with an encore season of her legendary show Bernie Dieter's Club Kabarett. Bernie and her band of bombastic bohemians (plus some new international features) will be bringing their edgy brand of opulence and otherworldliness to Meat Market in North Melbourne from April 17 to May 24. You’ll be transported to the Berlin Underground with an intoxicating blend of theatrics, circus, aerials and kabarett.
With an inimitable skill for curating a menagerie of sideshow talents and for holding an audience in the palm of her hand, Bernie Dieter has been described as “an electrifying cross between Lady Gaga, Marlene Dietrich and Frank-N-Furter in sequins”. Featuring an electrifying live band and a mix of Bernie’s original songs, imaginative covers, and brand-new music, expect a riotous evening that pushes physical boundaries, embraces non-conformity and sits comfortably on the edge of danger.
After sell-out seasons across the globe and setting London's West End ablaze, Bernie is back in Melbourne – promising a cabaret experience that's more provocative, more daring, and more outrageously entertaining than ever before (keep in mind that it leans heavily on the R18+ side). I haven’t met a person yet who has left a Bernie Dieter show without a huge smile and a sense of baffled admiration – from discerning purveyors of underground performance art, to edgy queer comedians, and even normies.
As our Time Out critic said in his five-star review from Dieter's previous visit to Melbourne: "It’s easy to see why Dieter’s award-winning show has garnered such esteem since touching down in Australia earlier this year. Less than two minutes in and our M.C., Bernie has thrown off her tartan dress to reveal glittery tights and feather-tipped shoulder pads. Soon after, she’s straddling an audience member and enlisting the help of two others – lovingly named ‘Shaven Haven’ and ‘Silver Fox’ – to carry her back to the stage in the splits. The fourth wall is not so much brought down, as elegantly side-stepped by her sky-high stiletto heel."
This east coast exclusive is your invitation to join the ultimate party, a celebration of freedom, diversity, and the art of performance at its most exhilarating. Bernie Dieter's Club Kabarett is not just a show; it's a rebellion against the mundane, a tribute to the misfits and the dreamers, and a night where anything can happen. Thousands missed out on her last sell-out Melbourne season, so don't miss the chance to dive headfirst into the spectacle, the laughter, and the sheer, unadulterated joy.
Bernie Dieter's Club Kabarett will be at Meat Market in North Melbourne Spiegeltent in The Entertainment Quarter, Moore Park, from April 17 to May 24. Tickets are on sale now for $40 to $95 and you can snap them up over here.
