Considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy, Guys and Dolls is an award-winning classic – and this August a revitalised production of the tale is on course to bring the heat of Havana and the beat of New York City to the heart of Melbourne.
Antipodes Theatre Company’s production of Guys and Dolls is set to be an electric reimagining of the tale that showcases the characters you know and love but also reflects on the passion and politics of 2023.
Set within a Prohibition-era nightclub, this oddball romantic comedy involves the unlikeliest of pairings: a big-city gambler and a puritanical missionary. Expect an evening filled with reckless abandon, visceral romance and a belief that love truly can conquer all.
Based on the short stories of Damon Runyon, Guys and Dolls features some of Frank Loesser’s most memorable songs like ‘Adelaide’s Lament’, ‘I’ve Never Been in Love Before’, ‘If I Were a Bell’ and the all-time classic, ‘Luck Be a Lady’.
The production will run at Prahran’s Chapel Off Chapel from August 10-19. You can buy tickets here.
