An ancient circus clown comes to life in this blockbuster one-man play from the UK
Colin Friels embarks on the first solo theatre piece of his long career in this sprawling one-hander by British playwright Justin Butcher. Originally performed by the late, great English actor Pete Postlethwaite, the play broke all UK box office records when it premiered in 2011 and went on to tour internationally. It tells the tale of an ancient circus clown who, after his last performance, retires to his dressing room to await the dawning of a new millennium and reflect on his extraordinary life as witness to many of the darkest events of the twentieth century. Friels will be directed by Alkinos Tsilimidos, who collaborated with him on MTC’s 2012 production of Red.
