Do you long for the days of classic arcade games? QV Melbourne has heard your pleas and they’re hosting a free, three-week retro gaming festival called Game/On.

From August 31 to September 23 QV Square and its surrounding laneways will be transformed into a gamer’s paradise complete with retro '80s fitout, a live game art mural, competitions and a selection of old-school arcade games.

Here’s what to expect from the free Game/On festival at QV Melbourne.

Game/On is inviting talented players to face off against each other to reveal the ultimate champion. Every Friday from August 31 to September 14, members of the public are invited to participate in a knockout tournament from 5pm. Players will battle each other in a game of DimensionsVS – a game developed by Melbourne-based TeePee Studios. The top eight from each heat will make their way to the tournament grand final on September 21 to battle it out for the championship.

Every day during Game/On players can take part in an augmented reality scavenger hunt for free, with the chance to win a share in $10,000 worth of prizes. Make your way to the starting point in QV Square, scan the first QR code and then wind your way throughout QV’s laneways to uncover all five AR scavenger hunt tokens. All you need is a smartphone and a taste for treasure hunting.

The thumbs of Generations X and Y are no doubt stronger for all the button-mashing we did as kids. Flex your digits and get ready to relive your arcade glory days at Game/On’s mega retro gaming arcade. The arcade is open daily throughout the festival from 11am to 7pm and (unlike when you were a kid) the games are free to play.

End your week with a Friday evening gaming party at QV. Every Friday during the Game/On festival, QV Melbourne is hosting a party featuring live music, art thanks to a host of Melbourne artists, and a candy bar for feeding your inner child. It’s all free, making it a no-brainer location to start your Friday night.
