Welcome the Year of the Monkey in style

Come February, Melbourne will once again kick off its Chinese New Year celebrations – this time, to welcome the Year of the Monkey in 2016.

Festivities kick off with the Chinatown Countdown, a Chinatown street event featuring DJs, live music, street performers and the traditional lion dance.

During the festival, Hidden Dragon Outdoor Cinema will screen martial arts movies, the Hawkers Market will see top restaurants in the precinct trading until 3am, while the Chinatown Feast will have punters enjoying traditional Chinese dishes during a long outdoor lunch in the streets of Chinatown. More than 50,000 Melbournites will flock to the precinct for the emergence of Melbourne’s Millennium Dragon, so join the throng and the festivities to ring in the new year.
