Die Hard is a Christmas movie, and we will not hear any nonsense otherwise. It takes place during a Christmas party, at Christmas, and features Santa hats and Ho Ho Hos. Plus there are machine guns, explosions, booby traps, murder, terrorism and walking over broken glass in bare feet (we humbly suggest to Detective McClane that should the occasion arise again, a swooping, skating motion might be more comfortable). What could be more festive?
Now that that is settled, you'll be delighted to learn that the Astor is getting into the Christmas spirit with a special screening of the film on Boxing Day. It will surely be cheering to consider that no matter how bad your Christmas was, it probably wasn't as bad as John McClane's.
It is the film's 30th anniversary this year, so you should definitely put the turkey leftovers in the fridge, pull out the latest copy of Forbes magazine and head to Melbourne's oldest single-screen cinema for the best Christmas movie.
