Self-planned New Year’s Eve parties can be a bit of a let down. It’s hard to have fun when you’ve got to think about stocking up beforehand, cleaning up afterwards and ensuring everyone has a good time in between. The solution? Book yourself in for a catered party at one of these local pubs and bars. There’s everything from super-luxe masquerade dos to bottomless pizza parties. And even better: no washing up.

Welcome 2020 at one of these venues

The Wharf Hotel is readying itself for another fantastic night of fireworks this NYE. The pub has stellar views of the pyrotechnics and will be enticing (as if we need more enticing) guests into the riverside venue with a four-hour drinks package, burger bar, ice-cream cart and taco and hot dog stands. Our favourite part? They’ll also be greeting all guests with a glass of summer sangria. $130pp.

The Provincial offers more than just fab brunches. This NYE the team is cracking open the bubbles and hosting a party on the hotel’s rooftop. This alfresco affair will have guests enjoying four hours of bottomless drinks from 8pm until midnight (stand by for those fireworks) plus snacks to keep you going. It’s not unusual for the Provincial to sell out early for NYE, so book quick-smart if you’re keen. $120-$140pp.

There are three ways to enjoy New Year’s Eve at State of Grace. The gloriously refurbished hotel is hosting three different parties across its three levels. Downstairs there will be a stylish canapé and cocktail party with a jazz band, while those looking to close off 2019 gastronomically can opt for a four-course dinner (with beverages) at State of Grace’s restaurant. Alternatively, see the New Year in with a bang on the rooftop where in addition to canapés and drinks, you’ll be treated to some stunning views of the midnight fireworks. $150-$190pp.

Head down to the banks of the Yarra for a NYE garden party at Hopscotch. The waterside bar is offering a four-hour beverage package in the lead-up to midnight with eight tap beers included (plus house wine and spirits). In true garden party style there will also be a pop-up Pimm’s bar serving Pimm’s Punch. DJs will be there to get you in the mood while the kitchen will keep your energy levels high with roving sweets and savouries. From $165pp.

The Impy is well known for being the place to watch the footy – but it's just as famous for fireworks watching. From the CBD pub’s rooftop you’ll have smashing views of the display over Parliament House. You’ll also be treated to bottomless beer, wine, bubbly and basic spirits as well as roving canapés. Arrive early to score the best spot on the rooftop. $150pp.

Be whoever you want to be at the European Bier Café this NYE. The stylish beer garden is holding a masquerade party with a drinks package that runs for (drumroll please) seven hours. During those seven hours, you’ll get a cocktail on arrival, canapés, pizza, selected wine and spirits plus an impressive 15 beers to choose from. BYO mask and party attitude. $140-$150pp.

Expecting to be in Richmond on December 31? Make a beeline to chic local bar Harlow for the raddest party on Church Street. This schmick Inner East bar is hosting a giant party across all its levels. Start with a cocktail on arrival then head to the beer garden to grab something from the barbecue station. Then make the most of your night by checking out the DJs and bar – four hours of drinks and roving canapés are included with your ticket. From $100pp.
