Footscray's getting a huge free street festival featuring live music, dance and market stalls

Hitting Nicholson Street in Footscray, Emerge in the West is a free community festival of live music, contemporary and traditional dance, global fashion, pool competitions, children’s activities and artistic collaborations.

Taking place on Saturday May 20, the day is presented by Multicultural Arts Victoria and the City of Maribyrnong and encourages emerging and refugee communities to participate in the arts.

The program will be headlined by reggae and dancehall singer Nhatty Man and his group Gara, with performances by One Spirit Africa Drum and Dance Company, Mauritian cultural band Sonik Waves, MC project All You Can Spit, Phoenix Youth FReeZA program and plenty more.

There will also be a winter craft market, face painting, cultural walking tours, workshops and performances throughout the day.
