Fed Square is your Festive HQ for the month, transforming into a glittering and glowing hub for holiday celebrations. Pop down any day until Christmas and you’ll find entrancing activations, free activities and family fun. Highlights include visits to Santa’s Workshop, fabulously campy Christmas performances, DIY workshops and a joyful celebration of Christmas, Koorie-style. Over the month, they’ll also be screening classic films, hosting carolling choirs and of course, putting up the City of Melbourne’s marvellous 16-metre light-up tree.

When: Fri Dec 9 from 4.30pm

The yuletide will truly be gay when Fed Square puts on As Camp as Christmas this Friday December 9. Swing by from 4.30pm to enjoy the smooth tones of the Rainbow Voices Community Choir, who’ve trucked in from the Macedon Ranges for a gorgeous set of carols. Join outrageous visual performance artists the Huxleys as they lead a glittery parade from Fed Square to City Square, Scott Alley, Degraves Street and back again, or get a prime seat to watch all those original friends of Dorothy (plus free popcorn and ice cream) at a screening of The Wizard of Oz. From 8pm, it’s lights out for fab performances on the main stage from queer dancers, visual artists, circus performers and drags extraordinaire including Aysha Buffet, Benjamin Hancock, Jandruze, Jarred Dewey, Nefertiti LaNegra and more.

When: Sat Dec 10, 10am-4.30pm

The whole family is invited to Koorie Krismas, a festival of art, craft, culture and community on Saturday December 10. Kids and families can book into free workshops including jewellery-crafting, badge-making and learning about bush tucker, while last-minute shoppers can score captivating gifts at the Koorie Krismas Market. Everything is designed by the Victorian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, and you’ll find beautiful jewellery, handwoven baskets, art, clothing and more. Throughout the day there’ll be energetic live performances from Djirri Djirri Dancers, Pirritu, Lauren Sheree, Drmngnow and Allara Briggs-Pattison, plus a few surprise appearances from Koorie Klaus himself.

When: Fri Dec 16, from 4pm

Christmas is already the most magical time of the year, but it’ll be even more so when Fed Square lights up for Christmas in the Wizarding World on Friday December 16. Witches, wizards and muggles alike can partake in costume competitions, wizarding world trivia and a virtual wand workshop with Paul Harris, who was the wand combat choreographer on the Harry Potter films. Strike a pose in front of photo moments inspired by classic HP scenes (think Platform 9 3/4, Hogwarts Express and Quidditch) and make your own LEGO Hogwarts Castle to take home. A marvellous day of activities is capped off with a screening of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and free popcorn.

When: All December long

Over December, Fed Square becomes the home of the City of Melbourne’s Christmas Square, a festive dream world awash in visual splendour. Delightful decorations aplenty surround a dazzling 16-metre LED Christmas tree adorned with a twinkling star. Bring the smiles and snap jolly photos with your favourite installations, or pop into Santa’s Workshop to get a picture with the big man. The workshop has been decorated in full whimsical detail, with walls of toys and wrapping material on hand for all the gifts Santa and his elves are preparing.

Koorie Krismas is presented by the Koorie Heritage Trust and Fed Square with the support of the City of Melbourne. As Camp As Christmas by The Huxleys is presented by Fed Square in partnership with Metro Tunnel Creative Program. Christmas in the Wizarding World is presented by Warner Bros.
