Time Out says

Get after-hours access to the exhibition, alongside live music, food and drinks and drag performances

Science Gallery Melbourne has got your first Friday of each month sorted throughout spring, as it transforms the entire gallery into a social playground filled with live music from bands and DJs, food and drinks, drag performances, stand-up comedy and more.

Appropriately dubbed Friday Night Socials, the gallery is set to celebrate its most recent exhibition, Swarm – one of the first few exhibitions being held by the innovative space. A cross between an exhibition and a social experiment, Swarm features 16 installations from around the world. Each installation delves into some form of collective behaviour, from insects to algorithms.

Highlights include an anthropomorphic machine that senses the presence of humans and reacts to gestures and movements, and a molecular visualisation of the ten most prolific human viruses magnified by one million times. There's also a kinetic sound sculpture by Berlin artist Marco Barotti that creates sounds based on real-time data generated by global population growth measured via the Worldometer.

The next Friday Night Socials event will run on October 7, from 5pm to 9pm, and November 4, from 5pm to 10pm, and include access to extended hours to check out Swarm

Entry is free, however bookings are essential.
