Time Out says

If you love yoga but don't like the traditional yogic teachings that goes along with it, this is for you

Everybody and their nans are doing yoga and these days you can do all sorts wacky variations on the classic styles. For starters there's massage yoga, and now there's something called Fury Yoga. Run by Keely Windred from Bey Yoga (the yoga off-shoot of the popular Bey Dance Beyonce-themed dance classes) and Ed Hunter from The Break Room, Fury Yoga is about getting the health benefits yoga with less of the traditional principles (which is totally fine, but not for everyone).

Fury Yoga is a place for yogis to release inner tensions and forget about a shitty day at work with a combination of energetic Vinyasa and slower Hatha movements, a bit of meditation and killer tunes. A typical class might be soundtracked by angst-ridden music like Alanis Morisette's 'You Oughta Know', 'Killing in the Name of' by Rage Against the Machine, to Rihanna's 'Bitch Better Have My Money'.

Instead of calling for yogis to ~being the energy you want to attract~, Fury Yoga is instead a place where you can vent your anger or say "FU" to the universe if you need to.

Observing her classes, Windred says, "It's interesting to see that all but one of our students so far have been ladies. I believe it is because ladies are generally more interested in yoga. However, I think there's more to it. I think society puts an expectation on women to be cool, calm and collected at all times. Eager to please and to not make waves. An angry woman can be seen as hysterical or masculine. So women in particular lack ways of dealing with fury. So that's what we are here for!"

The sessions run on monthly (soon to be fortnightly) at Bar Open's upstairs bandroom and you get a free beer after class, so if you're coming off a full-on week let Keely guide you through a cathartic yoga class. Entry price includes mat hire, so just bring a towel and some water.
