Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie and Ice Creamery

Time Out Says

Nestled along the Great Ocean Road among native gardens, this is the perfect spot for a pick-me-up sugar hit after a long day at the beach.

After becoming a landmark stop-over for families traipsing through the Yarra Valley, passionate chocolatiers have opened a new location along another popular holiday route.

The Chocolaterie and Ice Creamery indulges kids and adults alike with more than 250 creamy European delights for sample and purchase.

Along with chocolates and truffles, there can be nothing more refreshing during a hot summer road trip than a homemade ice cream.

While the free samples are enough reason to visit, school holidays provide wannabe junior chefs with chocolate-making classes so they can recreate their favourite desserts at home.

The café is also worth stopping by, which uses garden produce to provide meal options with a fondue, hot chocolate or ice cream to finish.

Ice Cream Festival

  • Fairs and festivals

Are you a classic chocolate type of person or are you game for more experimental flavours like fried macaroni and cheese and dill pickle? Whatever your ice cream personality, the annual Ice Cream Festival has something tasty for you.  The famous Yarra Valley Chocolaterie and Ice Creamery has a sister venue on the Great Ocean Road and a cute-as-a-button venue on the Mornington Peninsula. All three scenic locations will be hosting the Ice Cream Festival this February, with each developing its own suite of flavours to sample – there will be a total of 144 flavours (that's 12 new flavours every day), so be prepared to get more than one scoop. Our suggestion? Go beyond the classic scoops and try the kooky flavours like Aperol Spritz, blueberry boba bubble tea, cinnamon scroll, black garlic and chocolate, dill pickle, French toast, a Moulin Rouge and salted brown butter pecan.  And that's not all. Ice cream aficionados can book into 45-minute tastings, where $24 gets you samples of 12 flavours and the ability to create your own rocky road ice cream. You can also get a picnic to enjoy in the sunshine. It's $20 for two people or $36 for four. Entry to the festival is free, with ice creams starting from $5.20.
