Women in the West is the second exhibition organised by Her Place Women’s Museum – the first of its kind in Australia – and tells the stories of ten women who have contributed to Australian society through their work as artists, activists, sportswomen, writers, scientists, businesswomen, lawyers, politicians and philanthropists.
Women’s football trailblazer Susan Alberti AC (who is the former vice president of the Western Bulldogs), Indigenous artist and activist Paola Balla, botanist and ecologist Maisie Carr, writer and lawyer Kerry Greenwood and former premier of Victoria Jan Kirner AM are just some of the women featured in the exhibition, which is running at VU at MetroWest Gallery until March 31.
For each of the women featured there is a short biography, video and artefacts. To accompany the exhibition, Her Place Women’s Museum is delivering a series of public and educational programs and professional development, as well as a walking tour around Footscray.
Exhibition entry is free.
