For 17 days this April, Munich Brauhaus is doing an old-fashioned tap takeover and putting three strong German biers front and centre to celebrate Strong Bier Fest.

For the uninitiated, Strong Bier Fest is a Bavarian tradition called Starkbierzeit, a three-week frenzy of stout-swigging and spring well-wishing. As the name suggests, these aren’t just regular brews – these high-ABV biers are a medley of highly complex aromas that don’t hold back on flavour.

Running from Thursday March 29 until Saturday April 15, Munich Brauhaus’ Strong Bier Fest will be putting three strong German biers on tap: the Hofbräu Maibock (7.2%), which is amber in colour and lightly bitter with notes of cherries, plums and caramel; the Löwenbräu Triumphator (7.5%), a reddish brown, malt accentuated lager with a bready, slightly smoky flavour; and the Urban Craft Brewing Co Red Bock (6.5%), which is copper in colour and packs a punch in malt goodness with moderate sweetness and mild bitter notes. You can score a 300mL glass for $10, a 500mL glass for $15 and a whopper one-litre stein for $25.

Speaking of that one-litre stein, Munich Brauhaus will also be putting on a little competition. On Friday April 7 a little stein-holding competition will take place in the form of the Strongman Striker.

Limited edition Strong Bier Fest food offers will run as well to ensure there are no rumbling stomachs. You can grab a 300mL strong bier of choice and a whole pork knuckle for just $35, or get a free pretzel with any one-litre stein of strong bier.
