Can a comic book be sexually transmitted? Acclaimed fantasy author Neil Gaiman says so. He says of his runaway smash series Sandman: "Guys who wanted their girlfriends to read comics would give them Sandman. They’d break up, and the girl would take the Sandmans and infect the next guy. It grew on a vector."
Gaiman is also the author of charming fairytale Stardust (made into a film), sprawling epic American Gods (now a series on Amazon Prime), quirky love letter to London Neverwhere and gorgeously realised children's book Coraline (also a film), among others. He also cowrote Good Omens with Terry Pratchett – the book was later turned into a hugely popular Amazon Prime series.
Gaiman is coming to Melbourne as a guest of Melbourne Writers Festival on February 25. He'll be discussing his work and career with Michael Williams.
