Time Out says

A new market celebrating Indigenous art is the first of its kind in Victoria

From paintings, carvings and wearable art, to wellness products made with native Australian ingredients, every creation on offer at this Indigenous art market has its own cultural significance and story to tell.

The market is the first in the state to focus solely on artworks made by First Nations artists, showcasing works from more than 100 artists and creators from across the country.

Expect a diverse, curated array of artistic creations, including paintings, woven baskets, ceramics, scarves and wearables, cushions, books, homewares, carvings and woodworks, as well as skin care and body products made from ingredients sourced directly off the land. 100 per cent of the sales go directly to the artists.

Featured makers at the market will include Bula'Bula Arts (NT), Baagi Milaygiin (NSW), UMI Arts (QLD), Saretta Art & Design (NSW), Manupi Aboriginal Arts & Crafts (Tiwi Islands), APY Art Collective (SA) and Juluwarlu Art Group (WA).

You'll be able to meet and chat with many of the creators too – 20 of the exhibiting artists will be at the market over the two days, hosting free demonstrations and workshops. These artists hail from all around Australia, from regions such as Ramingining in the Northern Territory, Ngurrawaana in Western Australia, Torres Strait Islands and more. Workshops on offer include demonstrations of Indigenous art techniques and the making of 'bush beauty' products.

It's a special opportunity to support Indigenous artists and their communities by buying authentic artworks – and a great place for Christmas gifts.

The market will be held at Level 1, 120 Bay Street in Port Melbourne on Friday, December 1 and Saturday, December 2, running from 11am to 5pm both days. On Saturday, it will run alongside the Port Melbourne Artisan Christmas Market. Find out all the details here.
