This weekend dedicated to baking is the perfect recipe for a great time
If smooth frosting, delicate cupcakes and layered tiers make you go weak at the knees, then you'll want to book tickets to the Melbourne Cake Expo. This year, you'll find stall after stall of professional cake-makers providing inspiration for your next masterpiece, including Emelia from Masterchef, Miranda from Sweet Sticks, and Raewyn from Bake Boss.
Many of these cake masters will be on hand to run demonstrations and workshops on the baking arts; some of which you can book online in advance. While the cake decorating competition is now closed, it's worth attending just so you can marvel at the prize-winning cakes on display (and take notes for next year).
Thinking of bringing the little ones? The Melbourne Cake Expo is a family friendly event, with a dedicated section for kids as well as kids' cupcake decorating stall, face painting and a jumping castle.
Entry is $18, and kids under 12 get in free. Use the promotion code TIMEOUT to get 15 per cent off general admission tickets.
