Learn all about the final frontier (that is, space) directly from the world’s most famous space agency. NASA scientist Dr Jessie Christiansen is speaking at Scienceworks on Monday, August 13 as part of National Science Week (August 11 to 19).
The astrophysicist will take you on a journey beyond our solar system as she talks about the Kepler spacecraft and TESS missions. The event celebrates the remarkable discoveries made by these two significant missions. Without Kepler or TESS we would not know that it’s more common than previously thought to find planets orbiting stars (just like how we orbit the Sun).
As well as hearing from Christiansen, visitors will be able to try out life as an intergalactic tourist by experiencing Opaque Space’s VR experience, Trappist-1. Visitors will also be able to lie back underneath the planetarium or stargaze outside with one of Scienceworks’s telescopes (weather permitting).
This adults-only event will be held in an undercover space outside, so dress warmly. Beer, wine, soft drinks and food will be available to purchase.
