Come hungry to this burger party, and consider stretchy pants

To celebrate National Burger Day on Sunday May 28, Dandenong Market is hosting a hectic burger party.

Thirteen of the market’s vendors will be serving their own burgers – and just a heads up, this won’t be your regular two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun. Instead, look out for franken-burgers like the schnitzel burger by Hot Pouch Bar and Dining (fried egg, pineapple, beetroot in-between two chicken schnitzel ‘buns’). How about a teriyaki sushi burger by Osaka Kitchen (‘buns’ made from sushi rice and topped with nori) or a kueh burger by One Dollar Kueh (bite-sized Malaysian kueh sweets served in a warm bun), plus plenty more.

Sweet dessert burgers include a cupcake burger by Melina's Bakery and Larder (a chocolate ganache brownie ‘patty’ in between two sweet vanilla cupcake buns with ‘cheese’ and ‘lettuce’ icing) and a donut burger by Dandee Donuts (Tim Tam ‘patty’ with jam sauce and cream inside a hot doughnut bun). Good lord.

You’ll also get the chance to become burger royalty and sit on the ‘Burger Day Throne’ if you can down the freak force burger – a four beef patty burger with bacon, pineapple and layers of cheese – created by Melbourne food blog and network Damoforce. Anyone who manages to eat the whole thing will also nab a commemorative trophy.

Market-goers can get their Dandenong Market ‘Burger Passport’ stamped at each participating trader to go into the running to win $500 in Dandenong Market vouchers.
