To celebrate National Burger Day on Sunday May 27, Dandenong Market is hosting a hectic burger party.
Twenty-one of the market’s vendors will be serving their own burgers – and just a heads up, this won’t be your regular two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun. Instead, look out for franken-burgers like Melbourne's first pizza burger from Dandy Pizza (two margherita pizzas as buns, with a beef patty, cheese, tomato, spinach and homemade sauce) or a Indian stack burger from Thela Indian Street Food (rice pancake buns, vegetable samosas, cheese, avocado and lamb keema). How about a schnitzel burger from Market Tavern (two chicken parma buns, fried egg, tomato and lettuce) or they're even serving a very on-trend charcoal burger?
Sweet dessert burgers include a Tim Tam burger from Dandee Donuts (Tim Tam, jam sauce and cream inside two hot Dandee Donuts), a lamington burger, a doughnut ice cream burger and a monster burger shake (a smoothie topped with a cinnamon doughnut, chocolate sponge, strawberries, toffie, white chocolate syrup and whipped cream). Good lord.
You’ll also get the chance to become burger royalty by taking part in the profession burger eating competition and down the Double Chompser – a 900-gram burger including five buns, eight beef patties, eight cheese slices, bacon rashers, onions, pickles, ketchup, mustard and barbecue sauce – created by Instagrammer and professional food eater Riley 'Chompamatic' Murphy (@chompamatic) for Dandenong Market's the Grill. Anyone who manages to eat the whole thing will have the chance to win $500.
