[Sponsored] Spend an evening chatting with AFL legend Kevin Sheedy at the Duke’s dinner series

CBD pub the Duke of Wellington is back with the second instalment of their Sports Legends Series, this time with AFL legend Kevin Sheedy as the guest of honour.

The Sports Legends Series events run at the Duke throughout the year, with a previous event, a very special evening with English cricketing great Sir Ian Botham, selling out. The recurring series is a chance for Melbourne fans to meet sporting greats and hear behind-the-scenes tales from their glory days while kicking back and shooting the breeze with like-minded Melburnians.

This time, former AFL player and Essendon coach Kevin Sheedy will be gracing the Duke with his presence for one night only. Taking place on Tuesday July 17, the evening will be hosted by respected sports journalist Michael Roberts.

Sheedy will talk about his time as a player, back when he represented Richmond in the VFL during the 1960s and ‘70s, and his tenure as coach of Essendon. As fans will recall, Sheedy won four premierships while coaching Essendon from 1981 until 2007, before returning to coach Greater Western Sydney. And who could forget Sheedy waving his jacket around his head after the Bombers’ win against West Coast in 1993?

On the night guests will get a three-course dinner designed especially for the evening (think AFL-inspired eats), as well as finger food on arrival. Come hungry because you'll be enjoying dishes like char-grilled eye fillet, venison and wild mushroom pastry, confit duck leg and hazelnut and maple cheesecake. Your $95 ticket will also get you a two-hour drinks package, which takes advantage of the Duke’s extensive wine, beer and spirit collection.
