We are still reeling in shock following the murder of 49 members of the LGBTI community and friends of the same, and the wounding of 53 others at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando. A gay bar has always been a safe space and this act of unthinkable violence violates that principle. Stand as a member or with members of Melbourne's LGBTI community, make it clear that homophobia or any other form of discrimination, ridicule, abuse or violence based on sexuality will not be tolerated, and send a message of love and support to Orlando survivors and their families as we grieve with them.
A community gathering standing in support of Orlando commences at 5pm in Federation Square, followed by an interfaith service at 6pm at St Paul's Cathedral.
