We get it. When Melbourne’s in the depths of winter, leaving the house can feel like a chore. But when the city comes alive with festivals, feasts and seasonal fun, it’s a little bit easier to brave the cold. To help you embrace the chill, the Winter Series at Queen Victoria Market has arrived to celebrate the season – and it’s well worth layering up for.

The Winter Series transforms the market into a chilly-weather playground, where you can get cosy with your crew and embrace steaming comfort food and the chance to swap your gloves for a soul-soothing hot chocolate. Better yet, there are three standout versions on offer: a campfire-inspired concoction from Mörk Chocolate, a thick Italian-style hot chocolate from Romape’ Cibo Da Strada and an affordable hot choccy topped with a gooey marshmallow at Expresso Time.

The food line-up is equally tempting. Expect plenty of warming dishes including handmade Tasmanian scallop pies from Fredericks, truffle toasties from Ripe, hot jam doughnuts from American Doughnut Kitchen and birria ramen from Tacos El Habanero.

Over at the market stalls, stock up on winter essentials like crochet gloves from the Emel Evcin, alpaca and merino socks from Pink Pig Socks and warming hats from I C Fashion. If you want to bring the cosy home with you, grab a handmade candle from Designs by Sulochana or some essential oils from Bliss Essentials Aromatherapy with blends from the Australian bush. There are also plenty of gift-worthy finds on offer, from pearl jewellery and kitchenware to luggage and homewares.

Experience The Winter Series at Queen Victoria Market on Tuesdays and Thursdays to Sundays. With the Winter Night Market on every Wednesday night until August 26.
