In case you hadn’t realised, there’s a buzz of excitement in Melbourne at the moment. Visitors are once again pouring into shops, bars and restaurants, and there’s a stacked program of events to keep you entertained well into the year.

Here in the city, you can start with a visit to the NGV, catch a musical in the arvo and finish off with a film screening under the stars – how's that for an epic day out? So skip the FOMO and clear your diary, because you’re not going to want to miss a minute of the action.

Kick-start the fun with a concert at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl. Live at the Bowl is back, with the series set to feature a diverse mix of local and international music acts, dance and circus performances, and community-led projects. Running across multiple nights of the week until April 25, pack a picnic and settle in for a guaranteed good time.

The Moonlight Cinema returns to the Royal Botanic Gardens for another season of new releases, cult classics and family favourites. There will be food trucks and bean bags aplenty, and you can choose from a range of fancy ticket packages. Our pick of the flicks? Try and catch a big-budget crowd-pleaser like Dune or No Time To Die

Revel in the best of Melbourne’s theatre, comedy and cabaret scene when you check out a show at the Malthouse Outdoor Stage. At this new open-air performance hub you can bask under the twinkling glow of the night sky, enjoy a glass of wine and a slice of pizza, and laugh along with the likes of Dave Hughes, Sam Simmons or Geraldine Hickey.

Even if you’re not a style-obsessed fashionista who worships at the church of Coco, it’s well worth visiting the NGV’s blockbuster exhibition, Gabrielle Chanel: Fashion Manifesto. Open until April 25, this incredible retrospective presents more than 100 original garments, and explores Chanel’s influence on clothing, jewellery, perfume and accessories. We recommend visiting as part of the NVG's Friday Night series, when the gallery is open late and you can wander (drink in hand, of course) through the exhibition spaces and outdoor garden.

It’s the moment keen theatre-goers have been waiting for: smash-hit musical Hamilton has finally landed in Melbourne. See Lin-Manuel Miranda’s multi award-winning production at Her Majesty’s Theatre from March 16, and discover the tale of American founding father Alexander Hamilton. Is a story about love, truth, beauty and freedom more your thing? Moulin Rouge! The Musical is now on at the Regent Theatre until April 29, and it will have you singing and dancing in your seat.

If you haven’t already been to Australia’s first permanent digital gallery, what have you been doing? A visit to the Lume Melbourne is a fully immersive sensory experience, and offers an epic adventure into the world of art. Currently showing the works of Vincent Van Gogh, you’ll see his masterpieces come to life as every surface becomes a canvas.

See, we told you there was a lot going on in Melbourne at the moment. To ensure you stay across the city’s jam-packed calendar of events, visit What’s On Melbourne or follow @whatsonmelb on Instagram and Facebook for more.
