The popular Open House Melbourne program expands to Ballarat in 2017, throwing open the doors of the city’s best buildings – from contemporary design to heritage architecture; from private residences to civic treasures.
Beginning in London 25 years ago, the Open House program seeks to inform and inspire city-dwellers with examples of excellent design and architecture.
It’s not only commercial buildings and private residencies that open their doors for the Open House program: many public institutions lift the cordon to let you into bits of the building that are usually off limits.
Open House Melbourne director Emma Telfer says, “Open House is an opportunity to consider how design will positively shape the future of Ballarat. By visiting significant heritage buildings and sites that illustrate new architecture across the city, people learn about how the built environment and urban planning initiatives influence our culture and shape our future.”
The list of participating buildings will be announced in September.
