Why Falls Creek?
Alpine resorts don’t come any better in Australia than the sleek and spacious QT Falls Creek. Located in Falls Creek village, this hotel has taken out top gongs at the industry’s best-of-the-best HM Awards on several occasions thanks to its oversized apartments that feature large lounge rooms, kitchenettes and spas (on some decks), as well as commanding views of the Kiewa Valley.
When the snow starts to fall, this resort comes into its element, with rental and storage facilities for skiiers and boarders located downstairs and the main Falls Express chair just a few steps away. On-site you’ll also find a gymnasium, steam room, sauna, plunge pool and a Mii Spa day spa. Outside ski season, some of Time Out’s faves are casting a fly into a crystal-clear river to snatch a rainbow trout, and hiking out to Wallace’s Hut to scream down a blue run on a mountain bike.
Expect top local produce in a smart, yet comfortable setting at Alta at the Quay West. Recent menu highlights have been the Stoney Creek smoked trout, and duck and chestnut sausage on the entrée list, and on the mains, Milawa free-range chicken, Murray River cod, roasted Gippsland lamb, Myrtleford venison fi llet, and the top drawcard, aged Angus beef from the surrounding Kiewa Valley. For dessert, make ours the warm pear and ginger cake or something from the very good range of local cheese.
