Ladies and gents, your child's favorite mythical creature is so trendy that a celebration day exists in its magical, whimsical honor. April 9 is International Unicorn Day—a perfect reason to get out the glitter (apologies in advanced for the mess) and immerse yourself in all-things rainbow.

Naturally, NYC is the ultimate place to celebrate such an occasion. Here's how you and your crew can shimmer and sparkle alongside these magical ponies:

Head to The Unicorn Rescue Society's launch event

Children's author Adam Gidwitz will introduce his upcoming series, The Unicorn Rescue Society, to fantasy readers across the city with a Books Are Magic-backed event at the Brooklyn Public Library, Central Branch. On Apr 7 at 4pm, kiddos can escape into a tale about their beloved fictional creatures alongside Gidwitz. These make-believe animals need their time in the spotlight, after all.

Sit in for a story time and DIY project

Youngsters can head to Books Are Magic on Apr 9 at 1pm for a majestically fun time with authors Kamilla Benko (The Unicorn Quest) and Jessie Sima (Not Quite Narwhal) who will entertain tots with their works. Stick around after the readings for an exciting craft in celebration of the wonderful holiday.

Make a pit stop at Brooklyn Owl

Would Brooklyn really be worth the hype without a store dedicated to unicorn horns? Brooklyn Owl, which was founded by crafty mom Annie Bruce, comes complete with bright, sparkly, rainbow-esque unicorn horns for kids and pets, plus it has events and parties for your whimsical mini-me.

Chow down at The Flour Shop

This SoHo rainbow nirvana prides itself on sweets that are as equally fun to admire as they are to eat. Unicorn Cakes, Rainbow Push Pops, Hops The Bunny Cake—there are plenty of ways to indulge your sweet tooth. Please be mindful that the shop will be closed for renovations on Apr. 9 and 10, so your festivities will have to take place before the holiday itself.
