Trying to book those winter weekend getaways?

If you're a family who's not terribly inclined to visit ski resorts near NYC or head downhill belly first in a snow tube, why not embrace those summer vibes at Kartrite? The biggest indoor waterpark in New York State is putting a tropical spin on Christmas festivities in its 84-degree oasis.

Pack the swimsuit but leave the snow boots behind! Here's what's in store at the venue.

  • Indoor Snowball Fights: Every weekend in December at 8:30pm the ballroom transforms into the site of a massive (man-made) snowball fight. Are your kids ready for the competition?
  • Cookie Decorating: Saturdays in December from 4–6pm, design the perfect tasty treat! You'll be inspired to whip up a fresh batch of cookies for Santa after attending this drop-in offering. (Moms and dads are welcome, too.)
  • Candy Cane Hunt: Fridays in December from 5–6pm, your little elves are encouraged to grab a candy map and scour the resort for those sweets. Prizes are rewarded, so there's plenty at stake!
  • Santa's workshop: Throughout the month, Kartrite will give its visitors a taste of the North Pole right in the resort with ornament decorating, crafts and other fun seasonal activities!

If you can't get out of Gotham this time of year—last-minute shopping, decorating, holiday parties with the PTA, AHH!—check out our favorite Christmas events for kids in NYC. But we apologize: We can't guarantee 84 degrees in the Big Apple.
