Looking to toss your Tannenbaum? We have the perfect solution.

Mulchfest 2020 kickstarts Dec 26 and runs until Jan 11. NYC Parks' annual tradition allows urbanites to drop off their holiday trees, which are then chipped, recycled and used to nourish greenery throughout the city. So, if the most wonderful time of year must come to an end, at least you know you're participating in something proactive.

There are a total of 67 drop-off sites, 32 of which are chipping sites. Although drop-off begins right after Christmas, chipping Saturdays are scheduled for Jan 4 and 11. (You can have a full look at the lineup on the Parks Department website.) Popular drop-off sites by borough are as follows:

  • Van Cortlandt Park (Bronx)
Golf course at Bailey Ave. & Van Cortlandt Park S.
  • Prospect Park (Brooklyn)
Lincoln Rd. & Ocean Ave.; Park Cir. & Parkside Ave.; Third St. & Prospect Park W.
  • Washington Square Park (Manhattan)
Fifth Ave. & Washington Square N.
  • Astoria Park (Queens)
    19th St. & Hoyt Ave.
  • Conference House Park (Staten Island)
Parking lot at Hylan Blvd. & Satterlee St.

Mulchfest might signify the end of the holiday season and Christmas events for kids, but there are still plenty of fun winter activities to enjoy. Find a mug of the best hot chocolate in NYC and embarking on an ice skating adventure, tour one of your favorite children's museums in NYC or stay entertained (and warm) with great indoor activities for kids
