Grab a helmet and ditch those two extra wheels—it's go time.

NYC Parks and Bike New York are joining forces to help little ones 5 and up master riding this summer thanks to "Bike Skills 101: Learn to Ride," two-hour free programs across various boroughs. Taught by professionals, this course intends to give kiddos that little push they need to feel comfortable pedaling and steering—minus those pesky training wheels. They'll feel empowered when they unscrew those two fellas!

If you're interested in getting your kiddo signed up, visit NYC Parks online (nothing is better than a free class, after all). Participants do need to bring their own bikes and helmets, however, as equipment is not provided.

Jot the following dates down on your calendars. Here's when "Learn to Ride" will hit your nabe (in a traffic-free zone, of course):

  • May 26: Springfield Park, Queens
  • June 3: Dyker Beach Park, Brooklyn
  • June 16: Seward Park, Manhattan
  • June 30: Norelli-Hargreaves Playground, Queens
  • July 24: Juniper Valley Park, Queens

Imagine your little one zipping across NYC with the moves he or she learned at the course. What do you have to lose? First stop: No training wheels. Second stop: the Five Boro Bike Tour. (Dream big, right?)

If you have any questions before signing up, shoot an e-mail to classes@bike.nyc.

Make the most out of the beautiful weather in NYC with a visit to these exciting kids' playgrounds, check out a few exciting family attractions and round out the day with a bite to eat at one of the most delicious outdoor restaurants NYC offers.
