We might be able to take a dip at our local pool this summer after all.

In April, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that NYC pools will be closed this year due to the virus and budget cuts. However, now that progress has been made, those plans could change.

"We're now going to be reassessing everything. We're making some real progress," the mayor said during his press briefing on Tuesday, June 9. "Thank God, through everyone's effort, [the virus' numbers] have gone lower and lower, but we have to make sure it stays lower. If we can do that, then we're having a real conversation about beaches, for sure. If we can do that, there may even be a way to get back to pools. We're not there yet."

So while we might not know for sure just yet, we can "start a conversation around pools." Additionally, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced during his press briefing on Thursday, June 11 that each locality in New York will determine if public pools and playgrounds can open within their particular region, provided they follow health data and metrics before reaching a decision.

Here's to hoping that we can safely return to our typical summer activities this year. In the meantime, check out updates on our favorite kids' camps in the city and see what's on the New York Public Library's summer reading list.
