For those who thought gaining acceptance into a prestigious university was tough, schools in New York pose an equally challenging application process. Niche.com, a family resource for researching schools, just revealed its list of the top k–12 private schools in the five boroughs and nearby—and parents' ears have perked right up. Get ready for the competition (and yes, even the fees comparable with college tuition).

Based on a variety of factors, including composite SAT/ACT scores, cultural and diversity grade, college enrollment, among other areas, Niche and the U.S. Department of Education assembled a lengthy roundup of the best of the best (across the country, in fact), so if you're thinking about next year's studies, it might be a good idea to start planning.

Curious about where the dream school stacks up? Wondering if your go-to choice made the list at all? Here are Niche's findings for 2019:

1. Trinity School, Manhattan

2. Collegiate College, Manhattan

3. Horace Mann, Bronx

4. Dalton School, Manhattan

5. Brearley School, Manhattan

6. Riverdale Country School, Bronx

7. The Chapin School, Manhattan

8. Packer Collegiate Institute, Brooklyn

9. Poly Prep Country Day School, Brooklyn

10. Convent of the Sacred Heart, Manhattan

(See the full list—including neighboring New York areas—here).

It's go-time NYC. Where will you have your children apply? Be sure to also check out Niche's findings for the best public schools of 2019
