Hudson River Park's Pier 26 is set to receive an eco-friendly makeover, and much to families' delight, the new amenities planned for this Tribeca hotspot will be a huge hit with the kiddies.

According to Curbed, the $10 million contributions from CitiGroup, the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation and New York City are making this new project possible. Toward the end of the year, Olin Studio's undertaking will begin, and we can't wait to enjoy relaxing weekend outings.

While adults will undoubtedly love basking in the wooden decking area (which promises to provide spectacular views of the city), it's the playgrounds and fields that really have us jazzed. First thing's first? Pier 26 will house a playground that not only packs in the fun, but sheds light on endangered species. Just look at those cool slides (mind if we join, kids?).

The new features are clearly multifaceted. To add an educational component to the plans, the pier's wetland tidal pool space will serve as place for youngsters to learn about the environment and climate. When little ones are ready to get moving, they'll be able to enjoy playtime in awesome soccer and ball fields. An education center is also in the works, Curbed further reports, but there is no timeframe as to when that project will take place.

Though NYC families won't be able to take advantage of these upcoming features until 2020—when everything is set for completion—we're certain it'll be well worth the wait.

Now's the time to enjoy the great outdoors NYC. After all, we're supposed to be treated to warm weather. Grab a bite at the best rooftop restaurants NYC has to offer, take a swing by a kids playground or plan a day when you can tackle the best strawberry picking in NY
