What happens when your dessert is too pretty to eat?

It's certainly a conundrum when ordering at Taiyaki NYC, but it's a sacrifice we're willing to make. The Japanese ice cream shop, an Instagram go-to for its adorable fish-shaped cones, just opened a new Williamsburg location, and we can't wait to get creative with our selections. As much as we adore this unique take on dessert, there's a deeper meaning behind the delicious and eye-catching sweets.

"We are mostly looking forward to introducing our Japanese treasure: the taiyaki topped with artisanal asian soft serve flavors to the Williamsburg and Brooklyn community," says co-founder Jimmy Chen. "We want to spread Japanese culture to a big sector of NYC."

Of course, saying no won't be a possibility on the dog days of summer. The shop's Signature Taiyaki cones come in several different flavors, including "It's Choco-Lit," chocolate ice cream custard, chocolate drizzle, chocolate powder and a wafer stick all nestled in the adorable fish cone ($8). Those looking for something fruity can opt for Berry Lovely, vanilla ice cream custard, strawberry drizzle, rainbow sprinkles and rainbow mochi on a fish cone (also $8).

If you're more interested in the DIY options, choose from a cone, cup or matcha cone and feast on ice cream flavors, including classics like chocolate and strawberry to the atypical, black sesame and matcha black sesame. Rainbow mochi, sprinkles and crushed Oreos, among other toppings, are just waiting for inclusion in your ice cream creation. If you're one to opt for a shake, the $10 unicorn shakes are a no-brainer.
