There's a lot to love about Union Square, especially the nabe's newest retreat for little ones.

Enter Union Square Play (36 E 18th St). The family-friendly oasis for tots and parents offers a chance to recoup and reconnect. "We want to know, educate and support each family who walks through our door," says co-founder and parent Jennie Monness. "We give babies the opportunity to be who they are. Our classes are based on free exploration and our open play space is made up of equipment and toys that are open ended and inviting."

Currently in the soft launch phase—the grand opening slated for January 2019—the venue is operating Monday through Friday with offerings in art, music, sensory play, movement and more. Classes range from $30–$45 and open play is available for $18 for three hours (which will increase to $30/two hours come the grand opening). "Our current model is drop in classes, where parents don't need to pay for any membership, registration or cancellation fees and they can just try single classes and not be tied down to anything that is an entire semester," Monness adds.

Another sweet benefit of the space? The neighbors. Should your kiddo crave a snack, Kellogg's is located above the venue, so this section of Union Square is basically calling your kids' name.

Whether you're dropping in for a little down time, letting your tot explore painting or getting them acquainted on their feet, Union Square Play is a wonderful new attraction to add to your list.

"In NYC, having a home away from homewhere theres plenty of open space and having a place where families can connect with one another during an otherwise isolating time, is everything," Monness says.
