Kipo is back! On Friday, June 9, Season 2 of Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts will air on Netflix, picking up where Season 1 left off. To jog your memory: Kipo wrestled control of a double-headed flamingo the size of an elephant to save her father from Scarlegmane, the highly intelligent mandrill who plans to rule the Earth as a despotic emperor.

Wait, you don't already know about Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts? It's only just one of the best cartoons for kids to watch now. In fact, it's one of our favorite TV shows for kids and families, period. Kipo is perfect for kids ages 7 and up, and one of the best things families can do in New York right now is to watch it together.

The series tells the story of Kipo, a sunny 13-year-old who lives in a post-apocalyptic world: Humans hide in underground cities while the surface of the Earth is dominated by "mutes," fantastically mutated creatures such as human-sized frogs in slim-cut suits, lumberjack kittens as big as grizzlies, a pack of astrophysicist wolves, aerobics-crazy raccoons, a Diplodocus-sized bunny rabbit who is very protective of her hippo-sized babies and more.

In Season 1, Kipo found herself on the surface, then banded together with Wolf (a human), Benson (a human), Dave (a scene-stealing toddler-sized bug) and Mandu (a snuggly pig with four eyes and six legs), to make her way back home.

Basically, it was a dystopian teenage Odyssey anime that's completely delightful and kid-friendly in spite of the bleak backstory. Kipo and her pals get through scrapes because of the friendship they feel for each other—and because the empathic Kipo has a knack for turning enemies into allies. These and other positive messages are layered into the storytelling.

Also: It's hilarious.

Will Kipo find Scarlegmane and save her father? What about her freaky panther arms? What did her mother have to do with it? Starting this Friday, these questions will be answered—and new questions will be asked.
