Children's car safety gets a boost

null In a joint effort, Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. and nonprofit organization Kids Safety First are handing out 12,000 booster seats for free in ten Mitsubishi dealerships across the country. The effort is part of an awareness campaign that aims to increase booster seat use among children between four and eight years old. The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia reported in 2002 that kids who ride in booster seats are 59% less likely to be hurt in a car crash than those who are strapped in by safety belt alone. Meanwhile, only 21% of children between ages five and eight traveled in booster seats. The seat giveaway events will kick off on June 30th in Dallas, Irving and Plano in Texas, and will feature a safety education session for parents as well as free stickers, balloons and coloring books for kids.
