Panda's Jack Black chats with kids

kung fuYou don't need to work too hard to convince me to see anything Jack Black related; he's one of the few stars that can crack me up with just a glimpse of his contorted, oddball expressions. It took me a little while to jump on the JB bandwagon; I wanted to resist his obnoxious antics, but after seeing School of Rock with my nephews and nieces, I was completely hooked. If you're resisting like I was, or if your kids haven't seen the movie yet, go rent it--it's perfect for a cozy friday night in and will have both you and your little ones LOLing.

So being the Jack convert I now am, it's no surprise how much I've been anticipating his new movie, Kung Fu Panda, the latest from the talented crew over at Dreamworks. The storyline revolves around slacker panda Po (Jack Black), who unexpectedly gets chosen to defend the Valley of Peace from the villanous snow leopard, Tai Lung (Ian McShane). Sweet, clumsy Po learns the ways of the ancient Chinese art from Kung Fu master Shifu (Dustin Hoffman) and the Furious Five: Tigress (Angelina Jolie), Viper (Lucy Lui), Monkey (Jackie Chan), Mantis (Seth Rogan), and Crane (David Cross). Of course, Po's weaknesses ultimately become his strengths, and the movie is likely to leave you with the warm and fuzzies. Sure, it may be a bit predictible, but the lighthearted flick is, in my opinion, a welcome break from recent ultra-heavy movies (There Will Be Blood, anyone?).

In conjunction with Kung Fu Panda's impending release, Jack Black took a few minutes to answer some questions from kids about the earth, animals and his martial arts skills from the folks at National Geographic Kids in this segment called "Ask Jack Black". Even his G-rated jokes had me muffling my laughter at my desk, so gather your tots around the computer for a giggle and to hear what he has to say in the hot seat. I think I may just keep this link bookmarked for an instant pick-me-up down the line. Oh, Jack Black...marry me?
