From a new sake-focused cocktail bar to a social brewery by Burnt Ends

Q2 of the year is off to a great start, with several promising bars joining Singapore's ever-vibrant nightlife scene. Leading the charge is Players Table, a new hole-in-the-wall on Aliwal Street, run by two bar industry veterans who have given themselves the challenge of crafting cocktails out of two core ingredients. Over in Tanjong Pagar, a new bar is putting sake in the spotlight, with cocktails and tasting flights suited for both newcomers and aficionados. Just a stone's throw away is BOP, which brings Korea's fun drinking culture to Singapore with interactive cocktails that'll get the whole gang talking. For beer lovers, People People Brewing Co. by Burnt Ends is worth the trip out to Sentosa for massive tanks brewing a stellar lineup, plus hearty wood-fired dishes on the side. Finally, Truth or Dare is a new rooftop hangout in the CBD, where live music and bold cocktails keep the energy going late into the night. Which bar will you be checking out this month?

Two can play at this game. Players Table is the latest addition to Aliwal Street, and this hidden cocktail room by veteran duo Jasper Tan (from Cin Cin and MOGA) and Marcus Liow (from Bar NKD, Anti:Dote, Barbary Coast and MOGA) has a clear goal. That is, make a perfectly balanced cocktail with two core ingredients. Guests can choose between combinations like espresso and Guinness, watermelon and basil, hazelnut and earl grey, as well as strawberry and hojicha – familiar, approachable ingredients that, under skilled hands, are transformed into something fresh and elevated in the format of a cocktail. The signatures are Pandan x Coconut – Jasper's pick – and Sencha x Yuzu – Marcus' favourite, but for something a little more unconventional, order the Dealer's Choice of the Week, which at launch, is an osmanthus-cognac cocktail featuring osmanthus oolong-infused cognac with strawberry vermouth and bergamot.

It's been a long time coming, but Singapore finally has a sake-focused cocktail bar, tailored for beginners and experts alike. At Braveheart in Tanjong Pagar, you are in the good hands of mixologist James Li and WSET Sake Level 3 sommelier JQ, who have created a menu of unique sake-based cocktails, curated sake tasting flights, single origin pour-over coffees, specialty teas from Japan and Taiwan, as well as bar bites. The pink-hued 'lager' ($22) is a must-try, made from hops by Singapore's first sake brewery, Orchid Sake Brewery, and made to look, smell and taste like a premium craft lager. There is also the Rosé-a-pét ($22) which has elegant, floral notes reminiscent of rosé champagne. Of course, straight-up sake is available too, and the team is happy to provide a recommendation, whether you prefer something layered and umami-rich or sweet and straightforward.

From the creators of Jigger & Pony comes a cocktail bar that's all about Korean drinking culture. BOP (Bartenders of Pony) is helmed by the group's creative director and the world's favourite bartender of 2025, Uno Jang. And this might be Jigger & Pony's most accessible concept to date, ditching the iconic 'menuzine' in favour of a simple one-page spread, where cocktails start from as low as $16. Think fun, interactive drinks that get people talking. For instance, the iced somaek, a riff on the popular soju-beer combo that defined many a university night, this time featuring crisp Korean beer and Chuga soju, crowned with snowy shards of shaved soju. Then there's the raspberry-red Bokbunja Pop, which fizzes up delightfully and overflows with a click of metal chopsticks. The K-culture references don't stop there – guests can order anything from a Buldak sauce Penicillin to a banana makgeolli Piña Colada.

People People Brewing Co., a 9,000 sq ft working brewery, has just opened at Resorts World Sentosa, serving beer brewed on-site and poured straight from tank to tap. This massive project is fronted by chef Dave Pynt of award-winning restaurant Burnt Ends and Australian Brewer of the Year Nick Calder-Scholes. At the heart of the brewery are 1,500-litre tanks dispensing a core lineup of lager, pale ale and IPA. Expect clean, balanced pours across the board, like a house lager built on Saaz and Tettnang hops, fruit-forward sours like passionfruit and yuzu, as well as citrus-leaning California IPAs. Chef Dave Pynt himself oversees the food menu, which features everything from wood-fired sourdough pizzas to rotisserie chicken, prepared in a Camino open-fire hearth. The bar also aims to be a social space, with weekly programmes, live music, sports screenings, membership perks and more.

Truth or Dare joins the company of plenty of other rooftop bars around the CBD, but the main draw is that the space comes alive with live music every single night, and DJ sets every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. To get here, you'll first need to locate The Offshore Building, then enter via the back alley and head up to the top floor. Evenings start mellow, relaxed and quiet, but by sundown, the energy amps up, the music gets louder, and the drinks stronger. This duality is also evident in the cocktail menu, which comprises four tipples (from $15) under the sections 'Truth' or 'Dare', from a gentle gin, osmanthus and burnt honey concoction to a heady vodka and brown butter number. Or, you can go for the Bartender's Choice ($20), which combines whisky, sweet ginger wine, azuki red beans and evaporated milk. The food menu is straightforward, with bites like nuggets and truffle fries, to heartier plates of kimchi fried rice and chilli crab linguine.
